Lyrics

She’s my utilitarian girlfriend
Telling me lies for a final end
And she’ll sleep with any guy
Just to make those hedons fly

I thought it was true love that I found
In that girl from a small southern town
But it was just debauchery
She don’t care about quality
She’s smashing crockery

“I was hoping that you’d understand.
Each man only counts as one man.”

But if there can be no special obligations
There can be no special relations
I’m feeling some frustration
Caused by her obsession with utility calculation

She takes into account that my feelings get hurt
But she doesn’t give a fig about justice or desert
She looks at me like I’m dumb
She tells me that my principles are only rules of thumb

“I was hoping that you’d understand.
Each man only counts as one man.”

“I don’t worry about dirty hands.
I always try to do the best that I can.
I don’t believe in agent relative shoulds.
I can’t abide plural or conflicting goods.”

But I can’t be understanding,
’cause her morality is too demanding.
It’s bad enough that she left …
But she gave away all my stuff to UNICEF

“I was hoping that you’d understand.
Each man only counts as one man.”
