Lyrics

Every year I’m teaching intro
It’s always the same song and dance
There’s gonna be somebody saying true for me
Just as soon as they get the chance
And I know that for a generation
This sort of thing has been going on
But they used to just cite the dictionary
And now they’re citing dictionary.com

Well I guess that I’m getting older
Cause it no longer bothers me
I still remember when students used to have beliefs
But now everyone just feels that P
Don’t get me wrong, I still love teaching
Hume’s Problem of Induction to the kids
And see their eyes fill with surprise when they realize
That they don’t know what’s wrong with it

I’ll be teaching Cartesian skepticism
The problem of free will and determinism
Some phil religion and some ethics
Ok probably just act utilitarianism

There’s always the few who come to love what we do
And they can’t wait to take more classes
And there will be those requirement fulfillers
Who only do their part to barely earn passes
But it will be going well until some lazy fool
Tries to pull the wool over my ocular system
I really despise papers internet plagiarized
Like I don’t know how to use a search engine

I’ll be teaching Cartesian skepticism
The problem of free will and determinism
Some phil religion and some ethics
Ok probably just act utilitarianism
Will work in mind-body dualism
The switching qualia problem for functionalism
Maybe hit them with a burst of the Critique of Pure Reason
If I can before the semester’s ending

That’s how I’m teaching into
That’s how I’m teaching intro
One two three four five
Try to keep the student’s interest alive
And my own interest alive
Another year of teaching intro
That’s how I teach intro
